In December 2025, I visited Zhejiang University's International School of Medicine in Yiwu after receiving an acceptance to our meeting from the university to discuss international student recruitment for the MBBS program. During my visit, I met Ms. Yolanda and Ms. Xu from the International School of Medicine, toured the campus, and attended a detailed presentation about the MBBS program.
Although I have lived in China since 2003, this was my first visit to Yiwu. What surprised me most was the city's international atmosphere. Arabic appeared alongside Chinese and English on many public signs, and I found a vibrant Muslim community with halal restaurants. For students concerned about finding Halal Food in China, Yiwu offers one of the most welcoming environments I have encountered, making the city especially attractive for Pakistani students.
The campus itself left an excellent impression. Everything was modern, exceptionally clean and well organized. From the beautiful library and multimedia classrooms to the indoor sports facilities, gym, halal canteen and secure international dormitories, every facility reflected Zhejiang University's commitment to providing students with a world-class learning environment.
One aspect that impressed me more than anything else was Zhejiang University's individual mentoring system. Every MBBS student is assigned a dedicated mentor from the first year, whether their interest lies in research or clinical medicine. During my years of visiting universities across China, this is one of the most student-focused academic support systems I have encountered.
